A: Creative Adoptions was founded in 1990 by a dedicated social worker and a group of six adoptive families.
Q: How many placements does Creative Adoptions complete each year?
A: Creative Adoptions opens more than 70 cases each year. We place 25 to 30 children per year in a loving, caring home.
Q: What does "open adoption" mean?
A: The birth parents and adoptive parents craft a relationship that allows them to share as much
communication and contact as possible. However, each relationship is unique and varies widely
in the extent of contact. Our counselors are available to guide the parents in designing the right
relationship for the child.
Q: What is the adoption philosophy of Creative Adoptions?
A: The mission of Creative Adoptions is to provide complete, quality open adoption services to
adoptive and birth families and their children in order to ensure a lifelong, positive adoption
experience for all members of the adoption triad.
Q: Does Creative Adoptions facilitate domestic, interstate, and international adoptions?
A: Yes. Creative Adoptions does facilitate domestic and interstate adoptions, but does not facilitate international adoptions.
Q: Does Creative Adoptions provide services for a traditional adoption? A designated adoption? A special needs adoption? A transracial adoption?
A: Yes. We will not turn any birth parent away.
Q: What is the cost of the adoption program?
A: The total cost of a full-service adoption averages about $18,500. This cost can range from
as low as $17,000 up to $25,000. The cost is made up of fixed adoption fees, and variable birth
parent expenses. Fixed expenses, payable in three installments, are $15,000. Costs included
in this fee cover home studies, legal, counseling and administrative expenses. Variable expenses
cover birth mother living and medical expenses, and have averaged $3,515 in 2002/2003 per
placement. These expenses have not exceeded $5,400, except in special needs cases in
2002/2003. The fixed costs for a designated adoption are $9,500 plus the variable birth mother
expenses.
Creative Adoptions is a not-for-profit corporation. We have significant expenses for staffing,
operating costs, legal fees and adoptive family/birth mother counseling. We operate the agency
with a minimum number of highly qualified staff and are careful to minimize operating costs. For
instance, adoption fees do not cover some of our key services including challenging or special
needs adoptions, counseling costs for birth parents that choose not to place their child for
adoption, nor does it cover the scholarship program for birth mothers. These costs are covered
